We welcome interest from any internal or external candidates who wish to apply for a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) with the University of St Andrews as their host organisation.

These fellowships are for early career academics and innovators who are transitioning to or establishing independence.  The fellowships support applicants from diverse career backgrounds, including those returning from a career break or returning to research following time in other roles. There are no time limits in respect of time spent outside a research or innovation environment.

The FLF Scheme has already funded fellowships from £300,000 to over £2m, and there is no preference for lower or higher costed proposals. The UKRI FLF scheme provides a comprehensive, yet flexible, package of support in any research area supported by UKRI. The scheme aims to enable the next generation of researchers and innovators to benefit from this outstanding support to develop their careers, and to work on difficult and novel challenges in ambitious programmes of research.

Due to the competitive nature of these fellowships, the University will select and submit a maximum of four high quality applications which must first be nominated by a host School/Department by 24 April 2023.

Full details of the scheme can be found at:

Eligible candidates wishing to apply for this scheme must note their interest via their chosen host school in good time, to find out more information about the internal selection process.
